Lanyards are Beneficial in many ways

There are many different types and styles of lanyards to choose from. A lanyard can be used to secure small items that you need access to on a regular basis. The basic design of a lanyard incorporates a small plastic clip on the end. This is very secure and even valuable items are usually very safe when stored there.

Some lanyards have a breakaway clip design. If the lanyard gets caught in a piece of moving machinery, it is designed to release the end and free the wearer from getting pulled into the machine. Workers who wear ID badges around machinery often wear this type of lanyard.

Besides the safety of the design, the wearing of a lanyard can help promote a safer work environment. Workers are easily identifiable when the wear a prominently displayed ID around their neck with a lanyard. A lanyard can be used to hold that identification. Workers who have access to restricted areas can also wear a key card on a lanyard around there neck. At concerts people that supposed to have access to the backstage area will most often have their credentials secured around their neck and held by a lanyard.

Machinery Safety and Lanyards

Sometimes lanyards are worn by people working on heavy equipment. Heavy equipment can be dangerous at times and if something goes wrong during the operation of machinery there may be a need for the operator to stop the machine immediately. A kill switch is pulled to halt a machine immediately in a dangerous situation. Many times a lanyard is worn by machine operators around their wrist. When pulled the lanyard will trigger a switch that halts the machine operation instantly, and potentially help to avoid injury to a worker.
